There isn't much support, your direct manager may be sympathetic but they are limited in their authority and power. I have been with the company many, many years and seen a lot of nurses and other staff just let go because the company will not compromise at all. The company certainly is not loyal to their employees and you are definitely not valued or indispensible regardless of how good a performer you are.
The company does offer good benefits by way of reduced health insurance premiums, one paid day off a year (woohoo), free Entertainment Book, and other small tokens. You are pushed to the limits with the job continually taking on extra contracts, learning all the different processes for each contract, the constant changes, the pressure to meet your KPI's, inflexibility with rosters and availability for annual leave together with no compassion afforded if you need to have a day off for emergency reasons or alter your shift. The staffing levels are never right and every day there is a call out for you to do extra hours. You are virtually thrown in the deep end and are not fully prepared for the sheer exhaustion of back to back calls, abusive callers and prank callers.
The training has been reduced over the years and is now fully online over 3 days whereas it used to be inhouse for 2 weeks. Nothing can prepare you for the job as a Triage Nurse unless you have worked in similar role on the phones. If you’re looking for a triage/work from home type role, there are plenty of other companies offering better conditions. IT and equipment issues are a near daily problem and with poor support. Over the last two or three years there has been a massive reduction in senior staff due all the above, retention of new staff is incredibly poor.Ĭurrent management needs a good clear out. HR cover management and gaslight staff who dare to raise issues. Little opportunity to advance unless you’re in the clique and certainly not if you show initiative. Some staff have PTSD from the types of disgusting callers they’ve been repeatedly, chronically exposed to.Ī highly punitive, blame culture exists where cliques form and those who are on the out certainly know about it. While Triage teams literally take back to back calls, are chastised for taking unscheduled breaks, bare the brunt of foul mouthed abusive callers. The company values are mere words on a webpage, yet all are strongly “encouraged” to adopt all values and live and breathe them. Even with staff in different states on different pay scales, despite doing the same work. While the role is work from home, the pay Is way below state awards. Triage team is severely understaffed, placing unreasonable demands on already extremely fatigued staff. Working from home in your pjs, and meeting amazing people from across the country are the two perks of this job. Medibank prides itself on being “Better Health for Everybody” but somehow the Triage sector missed out on the memo.
